Day 5. Tuesday.
Today was the day which we had all been looking forward to - the world's shortest scheduled flight from Westray to Papay. There was a heavy fog which didn't bode well for the flight. Ever the optimists, after breakfast, we set off for the airport where we were informed that the flight had been delayed. So, we returned to the hotel for morning coffee awaiting a phone call from airport control. On returning to the airport, and after a couple of conversations between airport control and Ken and myself, they said that the flight would take place at some point, but that they couldn't get us back to Westray. That being the case, we did not take the flight.
Being early for the ferry we went for a drink at a cafe near the port, which we discovered was run by the man, and his partner, who looked after the airfield. Peter H and myself stayed in the cafe while the other four took a ferry ride to Papay and came straight back.
