The 2017 tour by a bunch of Tykes who venture to Malta.
After breakfast we caught a bus to the Aviation Museum. This was included with the holiday and was very good. On leaving the museum, somehow, we got split up into two groups. One group managed to get a lift to Mdina, but four of us set off walking. Thinking that we could take a short cut, we set off up this path and were confronted with the city wall, and in a 'Last of the Summer Wine' moment attempted to scale the fortified city wall with a short ladder - we failed. We did eventually enter the walled city of Mdina and had a good walk around before catching the bus back to valletta for a period of relaxation before the evening session.
We didn't leave the hotel this evening. The staff looked after us especially well at dinner. The evening meal comes with two free carafes of wine, but when that was drunk, the staff kept on re-filling our glasses. After dinner we retired to the bar where we invited Michael from Chorley to join us. I know it's the wrong side of the Pennines, but the fine fellow stood us all a glass of whisky.
Breakfast today was followed by a ride on the number 81 bus to the market in Marsaxlokk. It is mainly a fish market, but not totally so. On returning to Valletta we came across a street parade by Eritrean and Ethiopian Orthodox Christians. We intended to visit the War Museum, but it was closed because they were hosting events as part of their Presidency of the EU. So, we crossed the road to the 'Malta Experience' video and tour of the infirmary.
We knew that, it being Sunday, many bars would be closed, except for 'The Pub' so we headed there. A young lady kindly moved do that we could all sit around one table. Her name was Ann Marie, who was with her husband Kamil celebrating her 30th birthday the following day. She bought us all a drink and insisted that we stay until midnight. She seemed to be of the opinion that the world would end when she turned 30.
