Tykes on tour in Northern Ireland

The 2016 tour by a bunch of Tykes who venture to Northern Ireland.

Diary

I travelled to Belfast by train from Kent, then plane from London City airport. The others travelled from Yorkshire to Belfast by train and boat. They had an unforseen problem when their train was cancelled. The train company came to their rescue in providing them with a taxi to the ferry terminal. I arrived twenty minutes early, and according to plan, they arrived shortly after me and we picked up our vehicle from Belfast airport car park.

We then set off to our hotel for the next few nights, which is The Keep Guesthouse in Carrickfergus. This Guesthouse is highly recommended. The owners are very welcoming, the rooms are spacious and it is excellent value for money.

The evening was spent in The Central Bar, a Wetherspoons pub, where the beer was excellent, and so was the rump steak.

Had a good Ulster fry-up for breakfast which set us up for the day. Three of our team went AWOL so Peter and myself had a walk down to the marina. Returning back towards the town we went into the castle and keep which was very interesting.

After answering a phone call from Graham we met at the railway station to spend the afternoon in Belfast. We did the city tour on a bus, seeing places which we wouldn't otherwise have seen. The afternoon was finished off with a drink in Bittles Bar - well worth a visit - and then returning to Carrickfergus.

We had our evening meal at The Central Bar which was Chicken Night. We must be becoming sofisticated with our advancing ages - we all had wine with our chicken dinners. We spent all evening there and after a few beers retired to our B & B.
