History

Ken and myself came to Up Helly Aa last year. Our original intention was to have a trip during early 2011 to a different location, but really struggled to find somewhere interesting. After some discussion we decided that because we had had such a good time in the Shetlands in January 2010 that we would go there again.

Unfortunately, one of our members who came last year could not make it in 2011. We started to look around for others to make up the numbers, and before we realised it there were six of us.

I went to school with Ken and Peter, and started work as an apprentice at the same time as Graham. Ken knows Kevin from their teenage years and Graham worked with Roy in Libya. I now live in Kent, Roy is in Stafford and Kevin resides in Berwick. Apart from Kevin, we are to meet up in Yorkshire the day before departure by train to Aberdeen. Kevin will meet us in either Edinburgh or Aberdeen.

This will be Ken and myself's third year of getting away since we met up after a long absence. Our first trip was to the Outer Hebrides - another excellent location.
